Bruxism

Botox for bruxism

Bruxism Treatment

Bruxism consists of grinding and/or clenching the teeth, involuntarily and intensely, due to hypertrophy and continuous contraction of the masticatory muscles. This occurs during sleep and, in some people, also during the day.

The treatment, whose purpose is to limit damage to the temporomandibular joint, is based on the placement of splints, pharmacological treatments, and BOTULINUM TOXIN type A, which is one of the most effective and safe treatments.

Bruxism affects the patient’s quality of life, producing headaches, neck and jaw pain, pain when chewing, mandibular blockage upon awakening, and insomnia. Aesthetically, it produces widening of the mandibular area. It can also cause loss of dental enamel, fracture of the teeth, and retraction and inflammation of the gums.

BOTULINUM TOXIN, or BOTOX, achieves muscle relaxation when injected into the masseter muscle, allowing the relaxation of said muscle. It is a FAST, SIMPLE, and PAINLESS procedure that will not require anesthesia or recovery time.

Its duration is 4 to 6 months, and the patient can resume normal life from the moment they leave the office. The results of the treatment begin to appear from the fourth or fifth day.

As a side effect to mention, a small hematoma may appear that disappears on its own within a few days.
